THE WHITE TOWER
The dominant feature of Hradec Králové
The Renaissance White Tower is the highest landmark of the city (72 m), from its gallery visitors can enjoy a unique view not only of Hradec Králové but also of the distant peaks of the Giant Mountains and the Orlické Mountains.
The name White Tower is due to the bright colour of the Hořice sandstone from which it is built. It houses the third largest bell in the Czech Republic, Augustin, the original clockwork of Josef Božek and, thanks to the generous reconstruction carried out by the Municipality of Hradec Králové in 2014 and 2015, a unique glass model of the tower and modern audiovisual technology, which brings a wealth of opportunities for entertainment and education when climbing the tower.
