PLANETARY TRAIL IN HRADEC KRÁLOVÉ
A model of the Solar System you can walk through
The Planetary Trail is a 1-in-1 billion scale model of our Solar System – 1 metre on the trail is equivalent to 1 million km in reality. The dimensions of the bodies (models of the Sun and planets) and the distances between them correspond to this scale. At each of the 13 stops, you will find a model of a Solar System body and a corresponding information board with basic information and interesting facts about the body. The total length of the trail is 6.5 km, part of it passes through the Hradec Králové urban forests. The trail was built in 2005 by members of the Astronomical Society in Hradec Králové and the staff of the Observatory and Planetarium in Hradec Králové. When you follow the trail, you will not only learn about the distances, sizes and properties of the bodies of the Solar System, but you will also get to know the picturesque landscape of the city districts of Nový Hradec Králové, Zámeček, Roudnička and Kluky. You will walk first along the asphalt road, then through a meadow, through a forest, past the ponds Datlík, Cikán and Biřička, to the terminus of public transport lines 1 and 2 at Nový Hradec and/or to the forest cemetery.
